same reason why people of this generation brought back mohawks, and girls wear them ugly *** shoes where there foot is exposed, not sure the name but there out of like the 80's, its just the style. People try to set a fashion and see who follows, I guess like the makeup days back then, but who really followed. maybe it will come back, hope not thou, but I will never do that stupid crap, history repeats itself sometimes for the worseWhy did male icons of the 80's like Boy George and Leigh Bowery wear makeup?
There was a British/American glam rock thing going on with David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Roxy Music, Mott the Hoople, The New York Dolls et cetera. They mixed a campy theatrical visual style with their music, but at least they had musical talent.
I don't know who Leigh Bowery is or was, and Boy George was pretty much a one hit wonder. To suggest that they were icons may be stretching the truth a little bit.
it was the 80's everyone wore makeup! thank god we have moved on
In the 20th Century make-up and a feminie image was very BIG. From the 1960's, to the 1980's men liked to look particulary feminine. It started of with rockstars such as Brian Jones, David Bowie and Boy George wearing makeup and bright bold clothes and became a phase between male icons and fans.
It was seen in that century as a manly thing. It was part of the rock and roll era and really summed up what that century was like!
Hope that helped
