What's are the different types of makeup (like foundations, concealers, etc.) and which do I need to conceal acne scars?
In what order to I apply the makeup (including toning, moisturizing, and Dan Kern's benzoyl peroxide acne cream)?
What defines the correct shade and how do I find it?
What products are recommended?
How are the products applied? With finger or brush? In what type of strokes (upward, circular, etc.)?
Anything else you can think of would also be appreciated. Thank you in advance.Taking high school yearbook picture soon, need makeup (for male) help?
Hello-
Well there are way to many types of makeup to explain them all :) MAC alone has about 20 different types of foundation. So i will do my best to just give you a limited overview, as this is only for a picture and not for everyday life.
Makeup is made to cover up , so its not going to be hard to conceal a few acne scars for a picture.
First you need to use your daily cleansing system, which should consist at least of a oil free cleanser (checks and balances by Origins $17.50) Is a great one, to be followed by a oil controlling toner (oil refiner by Origins $20.00) after your toner you treat your skin for any issues you may have, this is where your Benzoyl Peroxide comes in, then after it has soaked in you follow with a nice light oil free moisturizer...again i am going to go with Origins Balanced Diet moisturizer ($18.50)
Okay now for the makeup !
To find a well suited foundation for first time use, you are going to want to go somewhere that you can try the shades, drugstores are not your best option because you cant open the shades til you get home and it can be a back and forth game.
you then take the foundation on a Q-tip or provided applicator, and you put stripes going down from bottom of cheek to jaw line, try about 4 shades and determine which one blends evenly when it sets (dries) a little bit.
My all time favorite foundation is Perscriptives Custom Blend Foundation, that the make-up consultant actually creates in front of you from a color base, and uses additives that you desire, and builds you a perfect shade , perfect coverage, perfect benefits. It runs about $63 for a 1.5 ounce bottle. The matching Custom blended concealer is about $40 and is made the same way.
For something a little less expensive, try MAC Studio Finish SPF15 foundation its not heavy its medium coverage and it leaves a natural matte finish, so you look great in pictures, I think this runs about $20 at any MAC counter.
You can also just to make sure you have no oil shining through you can buy the oil controlling sheets they have for about $15 a box. They work great and keep you from having to reapply makeup all day.
Foundation always gives the best result and coverage when you apply it with a foundation brush, you can ask for this at any major makeup counter. They can also show you how to use this brush, but the way i say to use it , is to, put about a quarter size about of foundation on the back of your hand , and dip the brush into it....then you apply starting at your forehead and brushing downward til your whole face is covered evenly, you can go back and layer the coverage in places you need a little extra coverage (like scarring).
Well I think this is enough to help you on your way to a flawless senior picture!!! good luck !
Oh and dont be shy to go up to anyone at a makeup counter and ask for assistance, its what they LIVE for!!! trust me :) I'm one of em.Taking high school yearbook picture soon, need makeup (for male) help?
Hey congrats on graduating. You should go to olayforyou.com an all you do is like answer 7 questions an it can totally help you. There's stuff in there for acne also. They helped me an my friends too. So good luck an congrats again. :)
I totally know what you mean!
There is an amazing foundation called Bare Minerals.
It gets in to the skin and it blends and makes your face look even and conceales scars.
It is applied with a Kabuki brush, which is just a large face brush.
You can find it at Sephora or i think it is bareminerals.com.
As for the order of your makeup, I would say toner, Dan Kerns, and then mousterize.
Congratulations on graduation!
